HRDAntwerp Certified Diamond Grader 2010 & Diamond Treatments + Fancy Colour diamonds workshop

HRDAntwerp is coming to Singapore once again at the end of this month. They would be holding their Certified Diamond Grader Program and a workshop on Diamond Treatments & Fancy Coloured Diamonds! I personally went for the courses last year and I learnt alot from it.

I was trained under the GIA diamond grading system and learning the HRDAntwerp way of grading broaden my perspective on how I grade diamonds. The HRDAntwerp method is very systematic and easy to understand. The trainer, Mr Wouter Vansteelant was very clear and experienced.

I also attended the 2 day workshop on diamond treatments & fancy coloured diamonds! It was a great eye opener! I really liked the section on Fancy Coloured Diamonds! This was one of the reasons why I am dealing with Fancy Coloured Diamonds now.

This year, Far East Gemological Institute has managed to bring HRDAntwerp back to Singapore! Cost of the diploma course is SGD$3200 and the workshop is only SGD$1000.

I’m making a mention of this course as it benefited me tremendously.

Fancy coloured diamonds are very rare and very beautiful! They come in all sorts of colours such as yellow, champagne, cognac, green, pink, blue, red, violet, grey, black, orange, etc. Their colour is graded with a different scale unlike the D-Z for white colourless diamonds.

When describing the colour, there you have to take in consideration the strength of the colour, followed by the secondary colour and lastly the primary colour, e.g. Fancy Vivid Brownish Yellow.

Strength of colour is graded by the GIA  such as Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Deep, Fancy Vivid or Fancy Dark, which describes the combined effect of tone and saturation. To read more about this you can go to http://www.gia.edu/lab-reports-services/diamonds/diamond-reports/index.html.

Diamond jewellery is a must in every ladies’ wardrobe.

Standard diamond jewellery would be:

2. A pair of diamond studs
3. A diamond pendant
4. A statement diamond ring (with 3 or more diamonds)

Optional
1. Tennis bracelet
2. Tennis necklace
3. A Fancy coloured diamond piece of jewellery.

Diamond jewellery are like icing on a cake. They add spice to a lady’s features and accentuate her assets. For instance if she wants to let people be attracted to her elegant wrist, she can put on a tennis bracelet. A diamond pendant adds dazzle to her neckline, a 3carat diamond solitaire ring can be a loud fashion statement or a pair of diamond studs can add sophistication to the way people perceive her.

At Far East Gems & Jewellery, we make sure that every piece of jewellery we make is of high quality workmanship. We always check that every diamond is set well, each claw holds on to the diamond properly and every claw is shaped in the proper way. The diamonds that we use would be as per your specifications nothing less but sometimes more. To ensure that your diamond jewellery looks as stunning as the first time you saw them, we offer a complimentary cleaning service.  We also provide jewellery plating services at a nominal fee.

From Marilyn Monroe’s tagline, ‘Diamonds are girls’ best friends’ to DeBeers’ ‘Diamonds are forever’, the love of diamonds have come a long way. Diamonds have been a sign of love ever since Mary of Burgundy received her engagement ring from her husband. Are the love of diamonds just because of a smart marketing ploy?

Well yes & no.

Yes because, no other gemstone is so widely marketed to people as diamonds are. When you think of a solitaire diamond ring, you think of the engagement. What do you think of a solitaire ruby? Red, pigeon blood, nothing much comes to my mind. How about a blue sapphire? Princess’ Diana’s engagement ring. How about emeralds? The Columbian mafia?

No, the love of diamonds are not just clever marketing, but rather, they are beautiful, very durable and very useful!

Now, what’s this with the 4 Cs, rappaport pricing, hearts & arrows, fluorescence, ideal cut, etc. mean?

I’ll try to give you my perspective and hopefully I can help you understand and choose the right diamond you want!
